Více křížená kultura, byli přímým výsledkem Mods, kteří nenáviděli Hippies. První skinheads byli Mods, z bývalých gangů, které se velmi rychle vytratily. Během exploze reggae v letech 1969-1970 přejali prvky od Rude boys. Mezi poznávací znamení patří bezesporu vyholené hlavy, které se dají vysvětlit dvěma způsoby – jako projev nenávisti k hnutí Hippies a zároveň to bylo praktičtější v častých bitkách, protože je útočník nemohl chytit za vlasy. Skinheads si libovali v tvrdé muzice, pití piva a řádění na fotbalových stadionech i mimo ně (West Ham).
Pochopitelně to nebyli žádní svatouškové, jak by si snad někdo mohl myslet. Pokud jste viděli film This is England!, jistě víte, o čem mluvím. Útoky na hippies, homosexuály nebo pákistánské přistěhovalce byly na denním pořádku. Z velké části za to mohla tehdejší vláda Margaret Thatcherové a také válka o Falklandy.
Jejich vizáž byla a je mnohem rozličnější, můžeme proto vidět skinheady s klasickými jeansy, ale i s odbarvenými, nebo různě upravenými, ohrnutými, zkrácenými apod. Vrchní část oděvu je tvořena především košilemi značky Ben Sherman a Fred Perry (jemně kostkované košile). Oděv mohou doplňovat šle, harringtony a bombery. Samozřejmostí jsou těžké boty, původně pracovní zdravotní obuv (Dr. Marten´s, Gladiator, Steel etc.).
